THE PROJECT:
FUN WITH FACEBOOK FILTERS
The social media giant Facebook (now Meta) has long been an innovator in the tech field. In October of 2021, Mark Zuckerberg's behemoth of a company unveiled an effort that was aimed at making its long-running and popular Messenger app more interactive, effectively trying to transform a relatively new communication platform.
"Group Effects" gave the social media giant's users options for filters, effects and interactive games that they could launch while chatting with friends and family. It was an effort to upgrade the video call experience for one of the first times ever. This project had the potential to affect billions of people because of Facebook's incredible reach.

THE SOLUTION
As a SparkAR partner, BrandXR jumped into the AR partnership with Meta using a series of filters that could be used in Facebook Messenger (and later Instagram). Initial conversations were collaborative, as we honed in on filters that would be important to build and popular to use. With our skillsets, we created filters such as a hot potato game, fire breathing effects, a charades-style game and others.
THE RESULTS
The results of each of the filters individually were quick and large. Millions of users tried out our filters, helping enhance their Messenger conversations. For example, Hot Potato saw more than 10 million impressions as people played the game that had them try to keep the potato off their screen and on their friend’s. These simple, silly experiences can help your brand make engagement with potential clients interactive.
The Bottom Line
The work BrandXR did with Facebook illustrates the kind of return we can get for your company. By partnering, we can help you company:
- Increase the visibility of your brand by meeting potential clients and customers where they are.
- A guided leap into next-generation technology through augmented reality.
- Connect with fans and potential customers in a unique way, like Facebook's tech wizards did with the filters we created.
